Carols Round the Log Fire!

Carols Round the Log Fire is becoming something of a Christmas tradition in our little house church. Despite the ‘flu keeping a few people bedbound, we had a good roomful, and the singing was rousing. We started by piling logs on the grate, and they were soon blazing away and filling the room with even more cheer. The 8 traditional carols were interspersed with readings, rather similar to those of the Kings College Carol Concert, but perhaps without the polish.

Cliff played keyboard, which sounded like a church organ at times. (Clever bit of kit, Cliff). People from our own village of Frettenham, and neighbouring village of Buxton, and others from Norwich and Great Yarmouth, joined with the regulars in enjoying mulled wine, mince pies, and a selection of other nibbles afterwards in the dining room. As always, there was much fun and laughter, and everyone stayed long enough to join us for a simple lunch of tomato soup and tiger baton.

We have seen a number of people that I would consider ‘younger’ joining us during the past couple of years. They are not as regular as us oldies, and some have no transport and rely on lifts. Also, a number have no church background, and are not familiar with some of the basic facts and truths of the faith that I was brought up with in my generation.

We are also finding people travelling from quite a large area to join us. Pakefield, for instance, is 53 miles (shortest route), and definitely the farthest, according to Google, and which explains why attendance from some is not as frequent as one would otherwise expect. But is this all part of the so-called Quiet Revival? We pray that it might be so.

Wendy and I are away for Christmas and Boxing Day, and there is no meeting at our home. Shirlene is not only hosting a small meeting at Catfield on Christmas Day, but also feeding those who attend. May the Lord bless Shirlene and her family for their kindness.

We wish all members and friends of the church called Liberty God’s richest blessing over Christmas and New Year.

Cosy!

It was cosy! Already people are going on holiday, and indeed we will be by next Sunday. Well, at conference.   After a time of praise, worship and prayer, Ann shared from Luke 1:37. With God, nothing is impossible. She further shared about the joys of fellowship, and that with Christians, regardless of denomination, we are family.   We looked at Psalm 84. Yes, how lovely to be in God’s presence. The Living God - He is alive, answers prayers, heals, changes lives. We looked at Psalm 87 - the family of God is family, and is drawn from all nations.   Wendy led communion.   Barry H took us through 1 Corinthians 13.   There is no meeting next week.
