Don’t be a poodle!

We are so grateful to Shirlene for hosting meetings in Catfield. Our prayer meeting is held in her sitting room most Thursdays, and her ‘Sanctuary’ is used for worship meetings and banquets. Today was a worship meeting and a banquet!

The Sanctuary? A large summerhouse that Shirlene and her late husband Eddie had built in their garden, which is used for Christian events. I have on occasions used it as a prayer room for around 20 years.

It was rather tight as we were in our teens. We were mindful that it was Sue’s birthday, and that her husband Cliff had been 80 on Friday. Also, it was Malcolm and Moira’s 57th wedding anniversary. But we were not all old fogies. It was good to have Malaki (in his twenties) with us, and Emma and Craig.

Praise and worship rang out across Catfield, after which Cliff led communion.

We looked at Caleb, in Joshua 14, from whom we can learn a few things. Caleb means dog. Caleb was no poodle, but more of a pit bull.

We are to influence society. Don’t be a poodle. Caleb had come through the austerity and challenge of the wilderness. Each of us has come through challenges, and many of them serious. Now is not the time to sit back, but move forward. Caleb was a positive man, who as a spy, had encouraged Israel to take the land.

But the 10 negative spies caused the peoples hearts to melt, and they turned back. Now in the land, Caleb said, ‘Give me this mountain’. He knew exactly what the Lord had called him to do, and went for it. Let us be like Caleb.

A number of people asked for prayer.

Shirlene produced so many large bowls of rice, biryanis, curries, and various accompaniments. Cliff was given many gifts. People hung around and enjoyed fellowship and good humour well into the afternoon.

Heartsease Bible study Wednesday 13th.

Worship meeting next Sunday is in Frettenham.
