Surprise!

With some of our committed regulars having severe back trouble and another having ‘wrecked car’, we were expecting very few. Surprise, surprise – se were into double figures including Anthony from Great Yarmouth, a first timer.

Great praise and worship, with many participating with words of encouragement and exhortation. Thank you to Frank and to Ann, especially

and to Shirlene for leading communion.

We looked at Haggai 2.10-23.  Some of this passage may seem a little complicated or obscure. But not really, and the messages are clear!

Verses 10-14. If something clean touches something unclean, will the unclean become clean? No, the clean becomes unclean. So one lesson here could be to be careful when making close friendships, and to consider places we might go, for instance, for entertainment. We can be influenced by unhelpful things.

Verses 15-19. The peoples’ hearts had been far from the Lord. Basically they were ‘looking after themselves’ and not putting the Lord first. He disciplined them with poor crops, etc. Lesson – if we do not give Jesus priority in our lives (finance, time, etc), we may find that things are going wrong for us in order to bring us back to him.

Verse 19-23. For those whose hearts are right with God, the future is generally one of blessing.

In the final verses, there is a picture of the endtimes, when the world and society is shaken by bad things happening. Don’t be anxious; Jesus (pictured by Zerubbabel) is coming back to reign.

It was a Bring and Share Lunch, and some ate in the dining room and some in the sitting room and some on the patio. Frank borrowed my chain saw and took a branch off the largest oak, which had been hit by a skip truck and was threatening all entering.

Cosy!

It was cosy! Already people are going on holiday, and indeed we will be by next Sunday. Well, at conference.   After a time of praise, worship and prayer, Ann shared from Luke 1:37. With God, nothing is impossible. She further shared about the joys of fellowship, and that with Christians, regardless of denomination, we are family.   We looked at Psalm 84. Yes, how lovely to be in God’s presence. The Living God - He is alive, answers prayers, heals, changes lives. We looked at Psalm 87 - the family of God is family, and is drawn from all nations.   Wendy led communion.   Barry H took us through 1 Corinthians 13.   There is no meeting next week.
