Careful What You Say!

It was so good to have Billy and Wendy back with us, after a few weeks of home renovation. With usual exhortations, straight from the shoulder, Texas style.

Connie was in such pain, and asked for prayer for healing. But we started with praise and worship, led by Bob. It was heavenly, and before long, Connie was testifying that the pain had gone. Thank you Jesus.

Many prayed, testified and shared. Shirlene led communion.

We looked at the importance of what we say. What we do is more important, but our words are still very important. God’s word tells us so.

James 3:1-12 tells us that although the tongue is small, it is vital that we control it. Like a small rudder steering a huge ship , our tongue has an enormous effect on ourselves and on others. James 1:19 tells us to be ‘swift to hear, slow to speak’. So I need to pause before I speak. It’s important,

Men especially, like dirty jokes. Some women. Ephesians 4:29 tells us to make sure our words are wholesome and edifying. Christians and smut are incompatible. Don’t!

Proverbs 18:21 really emphasises the vital importance of our words. They are LIFE or DEATH. You can kill someone’s self-esteem, or their ministry, or their identity. Or your own. Speak positive life-giving godly words. You are what you eat, so feed on the word of God.

Let’s go out into the week taking in, and spewing out, LIFE. For others and for ourselves.

Bible Study this Thursday 2pm at Catfield, and worship next Sunday in Frettenham at 10.30am.
