I suppose Mark, from the next village, is not a ‘new face’ among us, as he has been with some of us to FGB dinners a few times, and to events such as our New Year party, and ‘Carols round the Log Fire’. Mark is our friend, and it was good to catch up on the world of cows and tractors and suchlike before the meeting.
We praised and worshipped the God who has made such a difference to our lives, and thanked him for so much. Ann shared some words of encouragement, as did Cliff. Michelle led us in communion, and her passion for Jesus was apparent as ever. We laid hands on Wendy L as her surgery appointment had come through for the end of this week, and prayed for Isaac, Barry H’s grandson, also having surgery this week.
We looked at the first half of Haggai 2. The temple builders could remember the previous temple in all its glory, and were maybe a little discouraged. We can learn a few lessons from this.
1. We are to concentrate more on what the Lord is saying, than on any distractions, such as comparing this work with a previous work. I can look back to a rapidly growing house church in the 1970s. Today, the Lord says ‘Work’ – as he did in Haggai’s day, and every day!
2. Don’t compare with previous works, and don’t compare with other people’s works. Work at what you are told.
3. Know what you are called to do, and do it.
4. Know that the Lord is with you when you do his work.
5. The future glory would be greater than the former. Our future is more glorious than our past. This is an eternal truth.
Our meeting next Sunday is in Frettenham.
