The curry feast preceding the Bible Study at John A’s in Aylsham last Friday was well attended, but with so many curries and other dishes, eg, a roast duck, there was a significant surplus, which John donated to a lunch follow the Sunday morning meeting.
The room was nicely full, and we welcomed Jonathan Squirrell, a regular guest speaker here. Praise, worship, tongue, interpretation, prayers, words of encouragement, and Shirlene led us in communion.
Jonathan spoke on the words to each of the seven churches of Revelation 2 and 3 – to he that overcomes, or similar. We each, at different times, have various things to overcome. Examples are sickness, relationship problems, addictions, finance, persecution, apathy, compromise, comparisons (eg, overcoming comparing ourselves to someone we feel is better)… the list is potentially endless.
Christians in New Testament times knew they were in Christ and that He was in them. This revelation is a strength, but we can help each other with words of encouragement, saying ‘thank you’, etc.
Even small steps can help us become overcomers in life. Maybe we don’t feel like gathering on a Sunday morning, or at other meetings. But the small step of just getting there invariably leads to such encouragement. Overcoming can be spectacular, but often boils down to simply ‘keep going’.
After concluding with our theme song, we adjourned to the dining room for curries!
This week, the prayer meeting is at Catfield Thursday, 2pm.
Next Sunday morning we are at Frettenham. There will be lunch, probably fairly basic!!
